A new choir has been launched at St Cuthbert’s Church in Darlington to provide exciting opportunities for children.
Sing and Shout Children’s Choir is for singing, dancing, playing games and more. Those attending will be able to socialise, enjoy tasty snacks and chat about faith.
The choir, which launched on 10 September, will be based at St Cuthbert’s with children aged 8-12 welcome to attend.
Megan Rawling, Community Music Director at St Cuthbert’s, said Sing and Shout has evolved from previous singing projects at the church, including Soul Children, part of a national initiative to introduce young people to Jesus through music they can relate to.
“There really will be something for all of the children,” said Megan. “Some of them will love to sing and dance, some will have a living faith and will want to come and ask questions.
“Others will be interested in dance, so it is an opportunity to engage in one or more of these things in a fun and sociable way, while enjoying games and tasty snacks. We want everyone to belong and shine.
“Singing and dancing is a great way to engage with children. Our previous choir initiatives have been successful and this is something we are really excited about.”
The choir will use songs which are singable, catchy and specifically aimed at the age group. They include Sing and Shout by Matt Redman, which has inspired the name of the choir.
In addition to the choir at the church, St Cuthbert’s is also working with St John’s Church of England Academy in Darlington, where after-school satellite sessions will take place.
St Cuthbert's also has various music-making opportunities for adults, including the adult choir that sings during Sunday services, and a new community samba band – which will launch soon after a wonderfully successful pilot over the summer.
